Positions 11–20 on Google: how to push to page 1

These are your keywords with highest SEO ROI. You already rank. Just push 1-3 positions to multiply traffic 5-80x. Complete guide with tactics, an example scenario and how Rankiamos helps you spot them.

By Alejandro Verjel · Founder of Rankiamos

TL;DR

  • Position 11 is the first of page 2. Less than 1% of users get there. CTR ~0.3%.
  • Moving from 11 to 8 multiplies your CTR by 5x. From 11 to 5: 17x. From 11 to 1: 80x.
  • 5 tactics ranked by ROI: rewrite title (best), internal linking, refresh content, CWV, backlinks.
  • Free 11–20 list: connect GSC with Rankiamos and see your queries in positions 11–20 inside the app.

Why are positions 11–20 your biggest SEO opportunity?

In 2026, the reality of organic traffic on Google is still brutal: page 1 captures more than 95% of clicks and page 2 less than 1%. Being in position 11 is practically equivalent to not ranking — but with a crucial difference: Google already considers your URL relevant for that query. You passed the initial filter. You are 1-10 positions away from gaining real traffic.

This is the difference between the two possible SEO strategies:

❌ Common strategy (slow)

Create new content, wait 6-12 months for Google to index and rank it, get external backlinks, repeat. Low ROI in the first 12 months.

✓ 11–20 strategy (fast)

Identify keywords where you already rank in position 11–20, optimize what exists with 5 known tactics, push to page 1 in 4-8 weeks. High ROI in 30-90 days.

To identify these keywords you need two things: Google Search Console connected to a rank tracker and a filter for position 11–20 with impressions >100/month. With that you have your prioritized list of opportunities in less than 5 minutes.

How to identify your keywords in position 11–20 (step by step)

Option 1: Google Search Console (manual)

  1. Open Search Console and select your property.
  2. Go to Performance → Search Results.
  3. Make sure the "Average position" metric is enabled at the top.
  4. Click + New filter → Position: "Greater than 10" AND "Less than 21".
  5. Change the date range to "Last 3 months" for stable data.
  6. Sort the table by Impressions (descending).
  7. The top 20-50 rows are your prioritized work list.

Option 2: Rankiamos (in the app)

  1. Download Rankiamos (free, no card; the app interface is in Spanish only).
  2. Connect your Google Search Console property (30 seconds, OAuth).
  3. Rankiamos lists your queries in positions 11–20 from the last 28 days (tap refresh to update them).
  4. On Pro, queries with a CTR below what their position should get come with the estimated clicks you are missing and a tip (Free shows the total blurred as a preview); add them as keywords and tap “Generate opportunities” for AI-suggested actions.
  5. Bonus: add those queries as keywords and the rank tracker measures their exact position (daily on Pro, weekly on Free), so you can check they are stable (not oscillating between 8 and 22).

💡 Why validating stability matters: GSC shows average position of the period. A keyword with average position 15 could be oscillating between 8 and 22 — if it is at 8 it already passes page 1, no work needed. If it oscillates due to SERP volatility (news events, ongoing algorithmic changes), working it now is bad timing. The rank tracker shows you the real position at every check (daily on Pro) and you keep only the stable ones.

The 5 tactics that move a keyword from page 2 to page 1

Ranked by ROI (impact / effort). Start with #1, follow in order.

1

Rewrite title and meta description with the exact keyword

Verify that your HTML title contains the exact keyword (not close variations) as close to the start as possible. Add a clear benefit or number ("2026 Guide", "5 steps", "Free"). Meta description should complement, not repeat the title. Length: title 50-60 characters, meta 150-160. If your current title says "Digital Marketing — Services" and the keyword is "digital marketing agency New York", change it to "Digital Marketing Agency New York (2026 Guide) — YourBrand".

⏱ Impact: 1-3 weeks · 🛠 Effort: 10 min per page · 🎯 ROI: maximum

2

Add 3-5 internal links from relevant pages

Identify 3-5 pages of your site with authority (real organic traffic, not orphan landings) that mention your keyword topic but do NOT yet link to the target URL. Add a link with varied but related anchor text: if the keyword is "rank tracker", valid anchors are "SEO rank tracker", "best rank tracking tool", "Google position monitor", etc. Avoid repeating the same anchor (Google considers it spam).

⏱ Impact: 2-4 weeks · 🛠 Effort: 30 min audit + 15 min edit · 🎯 ROI: very high

3

Refresh content with new substantive sections

Add sections the current content does not have: comparative table with competitors, FAQ section with 5-7 questions (also helps with FAQPage schema), short video embed (YouTube), actionable checklist, or case study with real data. Update the modified date in HTML (dateModified in JSON-LD) and notify via "Request indexing" in Search Console.

⏱ Impact: 3-6 weeks · 🛠 Effort: 2-4 hours per page · 🎯 ROI: high

4

Optimize Core Web Vitals (if poor)

Check LCP (should be <2.5s), CLS (<0.1) and INP (<200ms) in PageSpeed Insights. If the target URL fails any, optimize it: compress hero images to WebP/AVIF, defer non-critical scripts, preload main font, reduce unused CSS. Google uses CWV as tiebreaker between pages of similar quality — if your competitor in position 9 has bad CWV and you fix yours, you can pass them.

⏱ Impact: 4-8 weeks · 🛠 Effort: 2-8 hours (technical) · 🎯 ROI: medium-high (also helps other keywords)

5

Get 2-3 mid-quality backlinks with related anchor

Last tactic due to its effort. Identify external pages that already link to competitors in top 10 (with a backlink tool like Ahrefs; Rankiamos does not analyze backlinks) and do outreach. Better: guest posts on niche blogs, mentions in sector newsletters, dignified link building through useful resources (calculators, templates, free PDF guides). Avoid PBN, link farms and massive exchanges — penalty almost guaranteed.

⏱ Impact: 6-12 weeks · 🛠 Effort: 5-20 hours per backlink achieved · 🎯 ROI: medium

Example scenario: LATAM e-commerce, +60% organic traffic in 8 weeks

Context: natural cosmetics e-commerce based in Bogotá, selling to Colombia, Mexico and Ecuador. 1,200 queries with impressions, ~14k impressions/month on GSC, global average position 16. Organic traffic stalled for 6 months.

Audit with Rankiamos + GSC (week 0): identifies 38 keywords in position 11–20 with >100 impressions/month each. Total wasted impressions: ~6,200/month. Top 12 keywords chosen to work first.

Actions taken (weeks 1-2):

  • Title + meta rewriting on 12 URLs (3 hours total)
  • Internal linking: 38 new links from 22 pages with traffic (5 hours)
  • Content refresh on 4 priority URLs: comparative tables + FAQ + date update (8 hours)
  • NO external backlinks or CWV technical changes done

Result (weeks 4-8):

  • 9 of the 12 keywords entered page 1 (top 10)
  • 4 entered top 5
  • 1 reached position 2 (the most searched keyword)
  • GSC impressions: from ~14k/month to ~22k/month (+57%)
  • Clicks: from ~280/month to ~620/month (+121%)
  • Site total organic traffic: +60% in 8 weeks

Total effort invested: 16 hours. Cost: the Search Console side and the 11–20 list cost $0 on the Rankiamos Free plan, but tracking all 12 keywords takes Pro ($14.99/month), because Free covers 5. ROI: incalculable because the 9 keywords now generate recurring traffic without additional work.

How Rankiamos helps with this tactic

Without GSC + rank tracker, this audit takes 2-3 manual hours per month. With Rankiamos, a few minutes in the app.

🔄 11–20 queries from Search Console

With Search Console connected (free), Rankiamos lists your queries in positions 11–20 from the last 28 days. On Pro, it also flags the ones with a CTR below what their position should get, with the estimated clicks you are missing each month. You refresh the data by hand.

✨ AI analysis per keyword (Pro)

On Pro, tap “Generate opportunities” on a tracked keyword for 3 to 5 actions, written in Spanish, with priority, effort and the reasoning behind each, plus a reachable position. It works from your position, your URL and the top 10 titles; it does not read your pages. 30 analyses a month.

📱 Daily push summary

One push summary every morning (Colombia time) when your tracked keywords move: reaching #1, entering the top 3 or top 10, dropping off page 1 or 2, or jumping sharply, plus when Google's AI summary appears, cites you or stops citing you. The details are in the Alerts tab.

📊 Post-implementation tracking

Tag the keyword as "working" to filter it, and Rankiamos keeps measuring it (daily on Pro, weekly on Free); when it enters the top 10, it shows up in your daily alert summary.

Frequently asked questions

Why is position 11 so important in SEO?
Position 11 on Google is the first on page 2. In 2026, less than 1% of users go to page 2 according to third-party CTR-by-position studies (CTR ~0.3%). That means a keyword in position 11 receives basically zero organic traffic — but you are already there, you already rank, Google already considers your URL relevant. You just need to push 1-3 positions to reach page 1 and multiply traffic. A keyword going from position 11 to 8 can multiply its CTR by 5x (from 0.3% to ~1.5%). From 11 to 5: ~17x multiplier. From 11 to 1: ~80x multiplier. That is why identifying and working keywords in position 11–20 is the highest ROI you can get in technical SEO — you do not need to create new content or score huge backlinks, just optimize what is already there.
How do I identify all my keywords in position 11–20?
The fastest way is from Google Search Console: go to Performance → Filters → Position filter → "Greater than 10" and "Less than 21". It shows you all queries where you appear between position 11 and 20 with their impressions, clicks and CTR. Additionally filter by impressions >100 per month to prioritize those that move traffic. If you connect your GSC property with Rankiamos (free on both plans), the app lists your queries in positions 11–20 from the last 28 days, refreshed when you tap refresh. To check whether one is stable, add it as a keyword and the rank tracker measures its exact position from that day on — because GSC average position hides volatility (a keyword in average position 15 may be oscillating between 8 and 22). The rank tracker tells you if it is stable (worth working) or erratic (better wait for it to stabilize).
What tactics have the best ROI to move from page 2 to page 1?
In order of impact vs effort: (1) Rewrite title + meta description with the exact keyword and a clear benefit (fast impact, 1-3 weeks), (2) Add internal linking from 3-5 relevant pages of your site with varied but related anchor text (2-4 weeks impact), (3) Refresh content with new sections: comparison table, FAQ, embedded video, updated date in H1 (3-6 weeks impact), (4) Optimize Core Web Vitals if the page has poor LCP/CLS/INP (4-8 weeks impact but also helps other keywords), (5) Get 2-3 mid-quality backlinks with related anchor (6-12 weeks impact, high effort). The first 3 tactics can be executed in one morning and move 70% of 11-20 keywords to page 1 in 4-6 weeks.
How long does it take for a keyword to move from page 2 to page 1?
Depends on the type of change you make and keyword competitiveness. Title + meta changes: Google re-indexes them in 24h–7 days and they typically move 1-3 positions in 2-3 weeks if the change was correct. Internal linking: pushes in 2-4 weeks because Google needs to recrawl source pages and recalculate internal PageRank. Substantive content refresh: 4-8 weeks, especially if you update the modified date and notify via "Request indexing" in Search Console. External backlinks: 8-16 weeks for measurable impact. In any case, monitor with a rank tracker (not just GSC) because GSC average position is calculated over 7 or 28 days — changes get diluted. With precise daily capture, you see real day-to-day movement.
What if I tried everything and the keyword does not move from page 2?
It is a signal of one of three problems: (1) Intent mismatch: your URL is informational but the top 10 are transactional pages (or vice versa). Solution: create a second URL with the correct intent and differentiate (check our SEO cannibalization post). (2) Authority gap: top 10 has DR 70+ domains and yours is DR 25 — you need time + backlinks or pivot to long-tail. (3) Your URL is already ranked higher but Google considers it redundant with another of yours (hidden cannibalization) — Rankiamos flags it on the Pro plan when different URLs of yours alternate for a tracked keyword. If after 3 months of serious work it does not move, consider rewriting from scratch or creating a complementary page (pillar + cluster) to attack the keyword with multiple coordinated URLs.
Can I automate detection of 11–20 opportunities?
Partly. When you connect Google Search Console (free on both plans), Rankiamos lists your queries in positions 11–20 from the last 28 days, refreshed when you tap refresh, but it does not match them against your tracked positions or send push notifications about them; to check stability, add the ones you care about as keywords. Flagging the queries whose CTR is below what their position should get — with the estimated clicks you are missing each month and a tip — is a Pro feature (Free shows the total blurred as a preview). On Pro, “Generate opportunities” also gives you prioritized AI-suggested actions (in Spanish) for a tracked keyword, based on your position, your URL and the top 10 titles (it does not read your pages), up to 30 analyses a month. This turns a 2-3 hour manual audit task into a few minutes in the app.
